metal additive manufacturing technology provider SLM Solutions (Lübeck, Germany), together with industrial renewal and sustainable development research group Swerea IVF (Kista, Sweden) and eight other research institutions and companies, is participating in a project to develop a new production line for additive manufacturing of metallic materials, with a focus on selective laser melting.

The project, which takes into account new digital possibilities in the industry, will jointly develop a production line for additive manufacturing to shorten the time to market of new products and further improve competitiveness in this way.

Swerea IVF will expand its production capacity with an additional SLM Solutions SLM 280 2.0 machine, which has a 280 × 280 × 365 mm3 construction space size and multi-beam technology with up to 2X 700 W laser performance. In addition, bidirectional powder coating contributes to shortening production time of individually manufactured metal components.

The eight other project partners are Curtiss-Wright (Charlotte, NC), EDRMedeso (Västerås, Sweden), Höganäs (Höganäs, Sweden), University West Trollhättan (Trollhättan, Sweden), Nederman Holding (Helsingborg, Sweden), Quintus Technologies (Västerås, Sweden), Ringhals (Väröbacka, Sweden), and Volvo Trucks (Gothenburg, Sweden).
